U.S. President Donald Trump remarked on the physical appearance of French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife on Thursday, calling her “beautiful” and remarking that she is “in such good shape” while the French president and First Lady Melania Trump look on.

A live video posted to the French presidency’s Facebook account captured Trump complimenting Brigitte Macron on her appearance.

In the video, Trump and Macron can be seen chatting with the wives after touring Les Invalides. Trump then turned to Brigitte Macron and said “you’re in such good shape.”

He then turned to the French president and repeated the remark. He looked back at Brigitte Macron and called her “beautiful.”

The remark followed an awkward handshake between the U.S president and French first lady.

Brigitte Macron was Emmanuel Macron’s former teacher. The age difference between the Macrons — 24 years — is the same as between Trump and Melania.

President Trump is in Paris for talks and to celebrate Bastille Day. The relationship between Presidents Trump and Macron has been strained at times, with Macron stating a forceful handshake with Trump earlier in the year was “not innocent.”

When Trump withdrew the U.S. from Paris climate agreement in June, he said he was elected to represent the citizens of “Pittsburgh, not Paris.” However, on Thursday he said that “something could happen with respect to the Paris accord.”
